My name is Tallulah, and I have been a member of 1st Marldon Scout Group since I was ten. Earlier this year I was lucky enough to have been selected to attend the European Jamboree in Gdansk, Poland in July, 2020
The Scouts and Guides of Poland will play host to an expected 12-15,000 Scouts from across Europe, and being part of the Devon Contingent we will join them for 11 days of activities, combining the chance to develop new skills, make new friends and experience Poland’s beautiful countryside.
During the expedition to Poland, we will be meeting other Scouts from all around the world and taking part in a programme of activities focusing on Global Goals, Community Service and Skills for Life in the 21st Century. These activities are organised by both the Polish Scout Association and the Devon Explorer Scouts themselves.
Part of the Jamboree is a 2-day hike, outside the Jamboree ground exploring the Kashubian Region with a focus on community service with local Scout and Guide groups. After the Jamboree has finished we will be travelling to Krakow by train. On the Saturday will visit the Auschwitz Birkenau Camp. The following day we will explore Krakow, before flying home.
Such an experience will provide many educational benefits both to me but also to the wider global community. Attending an International Jamboree is an incredible opportunity where young people from various cultures and backgrounds come together to share in the unique and very special worldwide family of Scouting. By exploring other cultures, beliefs and international issues I will develop a first hand and strong understanding of many global issues thus enabling the Scouts to play an active part in helping to make the world a better place.
In order for me to go to the Jamboree, I will be fundraising in many ways such as; carwashes, bag packs in local supermarkets, events for the younger sections, table top and bake sales. I also will be making and selling Paracord key rings and Minion zip pulls.
I will post updates throughout the year from the planned training camps
Based on its own island close to the city of Gdansk, the purpose-built site is within walking distance of beautiful sandy beaches, pine forests and a short bus ride from the bustling city.
